SCOTUS: Supreme Court of the United States - the highest federal court of the United States. Established in 1789, has the final say and final jurisdiction over all federal courts and over state court cases involving issues of federal law, plus original jurisdiction over a small range of cases. It is also the final interpreter of federal constitutional law, and it may only act within the context of a case in which it has jurisdiction. SCOTUS also has the power of judicial review to ensure that the Constitution, and individual civil liberties are upheld. |
